So you’re thinking about hiring a personal trainer. You’ve probably got an image in your head. Someone standing next to you, counting reps, maybe yelling a bit. You do your hour, you go home, and that’s it. Right?
Wrong.
If that’s all your personal trainer does, you’re not getting coached. You’re renting a rep counter. I’m here to pull back the curtain and show you what real coaching looks like, because it’s the system, not just the workouts, that gets you results. And I say that as someone who lost 160 pounds and completely changed his life. It wasn’t about doing more burpees. It was about having a plan, a system, and someone to hold me accountable to it. It’s More Than Just Workouts
Let’s get this out of the way. A workout plan is not coaching. I can write you a workout plan in ten minutes. It might even be a good one. But a plan is just a piece of paper. It doesn’t know if you’re tired, if you slept poorly, or if you’re stressed out from work. It doesn’t know if your form is breaking down on the last set. And it definitely doesn’t care if you actually do it.
Real coaching, the kind that leads to lasting change, is a partnership. It’s a system that wraps around your life to ensure you’re making progress not just in the gym, but outside of it too. Because what you do in the other 23 hours of the day matters a hell of a lot more than the one hour you spend with me.
The Accountability Engine: How We Stay on Track
This is the core of my coaching philosophy. Accountability is everything. It’s the difference between “I’ll start Monday” and “I’m on day 30 and feeling incredible.” Here’s how we build that accountability together:
- Daily WhatsApp Check ins: Every single morning, you check in with me and our client group chat. It’s a simple, powerful way to start the day on the right foot. You’re not alone in this. You have a team behind you.
- Weekly Loom Video Reviews: You’ll send me videos of your key lifts. I’ll record a detailed Loom video breaking down your form, rep by rep. We’ll catch bad habits before they become injuries and make sure every single movement is effective.
- The Master Tracking Sheet: This is our bible. It’s a shared Google Sheet where we track everything. Your workouts, your weight, your sleep, your water intake, your macros, your energy levels, even your digestion. Data doesn’t lie. It shows us what’s working and what’s not, so we can make adjustments based on real information, not guesswork.
This system creates a feedback loop. You do the work, we track the data, we analyze it together, and we adjust the plan. It’s a constant process of refinement. It’s the opposite of a cookie cutter plan.
Online Coaching vs In Person: What’s the Difference?
I get this question a lot. Is online coaching as effective as in person training? The answer is yes, absolutely. In some ways, it’s even more effective. I offer both in person personal training in the GTA, specifically in Vaughan, and online coaching across Canada. The system is the same. The level of support is the same. The results are the same. With in person training, you get that hands on, immediate feedback during our sessions. We can make adjustments on the fly. For some people, that’s invaluable. But the real magic, as I’ve said, happens outside the session. The accountability system, the check ins, the tracking… that’s all part of the package, whether we’re in the same room or a thousand miles apart.
What About Contest Prep?
This is a whole other level of coaching. When you’re preparing for a bodybuilding or physique contest, the margins for error are razor thin. Everything has to be perfect. That’s why I’ve partnered with Tom Hemming, a UK based coach and NFM UK Champion, to offer a comprehensive contest prep coaching program. We combine my systems and accountability with his deep experience in the competitive bodybuilding world.
Nutrition: The Overlooked Foundation
It’s criminal how many trainers barely touch on nutrition. They’ll give you a generic meal plan they downloaded and send you on your way. That’s not coaching. We build your nutrition plan together, from the ground up. We don’t do fad diets or quick fixes. We build sustainable habits. We look at your lifestyle, your preferences, and your goals.
