I’ve seen it a dozen times. Someone comes to me, completely fed up. They’ve tried everything. Keto, paleo, intermittent fasting, the latest celebrity workout on Instagram, you name it. They’ve spent hundreds, maybe thousands, on programs and supplements that promised the world but delivered nothing. They’re stuck in a cycle of starting, stopping, and feeling like a failure. Before I became a coach, I was my own first client. I lost 160 pounds. It wasn’t a magic pill or a secret workout that got me there. It was a system. The Shiny Object Syndrome Trap

The fitness industry thrives on confusion. It sells you the idea that the next new thing is the one that will finally work. This is what I call Shiny Object Syndrome. You jump from a high carb diet to a no carb diet, from a powerlifting program to a bodybuilding one, all within a few months. The result? Your body is in a constant state of confusion, you never give anything enough time to actually work, and you burn out.

This approach is fundamentally broken because it lacks three critical components:

  • Personalization: A workout I design for a 25 year old former athlete is not going to work for a 45 year old office worker with a bad back. Generic programs get you generic, or more often, no results.
  • Consistency: You can’t build a house by laying one brick every other week. The same goes for your body. You need consistent effort, day in and day out.
  • Accountability: It’s easy to skip a workout when no one is watching. It’s a lot harder when you know you have to check in with your coach.
